Narberth Food Festival 2016

Narberth Food Festival 2016

Fine weather and quiet beaches often make September the perfect time to visit. If you’re planning a trip later in the month then it’s a great chance to catch the annual Narberth Food Festival. This year the festival takes place on the 24th and 25th of September. A bustling and vibrant event offering an inexhaustible array of flavours and tastes, the Narberth Food Festival is always well received by locals and travellers alike. An array of delicious foods from local suppliers or further afield. The Majority of food stalls are businesses from Wales making it a true celebration of fantastic Welsh produce. It’s variety and wealth of traders that now attend ensure there will be something there for every palate. Cookery demonstrations from top chefs, bakers and food experts are on both days for visitors to get involved with. A raffle with fantastic prizes is held on Sunday, tickets are available from the information desk. If you’re thinking about bringing the whole family there’s plenty to do. Entertainment and activities for children run throughout the day and are free with festival entry. A licensed bar and music from local bands make the festival a fun and friendly place to hang out as the day goes on. The food festival is great value for money with tickets for the weekend priced at just £5 for adults or free for under 18s. Find out more...
Glamp Rocks!

Glamp Rocks!

I don’t know about you, but most days I sit at twin screens. I have on average about twenty windows open. Vying for my attention are all manner of notifications (Come to a meeting! You’ve been tweeted! Come to Zumba! The snack machine is broken!)… Wouldn’t it be lovely to just turn it all off? Well, I fancied spending a bit of time off the grid. And  I think, with Cwtch Camp, I’ve found the perfect place to do it. Cwtch Camp is a secluded spot in the Pembrokeshire countryside, skipping distance from the Daugleddau Estuary. The camp comprises three acres of woodland, lightly peppered with timber cabins. And it’s peaceful. Dear god, is it peaceful. If you’re prepared to make the trek, you’ll be rewarded with a sumptuous helping of shire idyll. You’ll find serene woodland, isolated beaches, invigorating walks, traffic-free cycle routes… If such things don’t spark your hand drill, you might want to skip to the next article. Because going to Cwtch Camp is all about getting back to the country. A Cwtch – other than being the Welsh word for cuddle (aw!) – is the camp’s name for the timber cabin itself. At present, there are three onsite. The sparsely-populated site is one of the main draws, and you really wouldn’t want many more. These cosy pods are handcrafted using locally-milled, sustainably-sourced solid timber. According to site owner and manager, Beth Jones, “The cabins are not unlike timber-framed, Scandinavian cabins. Strength and durability are of the utmost importance. Each Cwtch measures 8 feet by 16 feet with plenty of head room, is secure with a...
Reasons to visit Pembrokeshire in the spring

Reasons to visit Pembrokeshire in the spring

DO YOU NEED ANY REASONS TO VISIT THE BEAUTIFUL COUNTY OF PEMBROKESHIRE IN THE SPRING?   THEN LET ME GIVE YOU JUST A FEW…. It is, in my opinion, THE BEST time of the year to visit as the beaches are beautifully quiet and you may even get them completely to yourself, the flowers and wildlife can be stunning and there’s not too many folk to queue behind at the bar! Earlier this month with my Surrey-based son and his partner staying for a long weekend, we headed to Marloes for a walk with Rio our aging Springer Spaniel and we had the entire beach to ourselves.  Marloes on the Southern edge of St Brides Bay is a great stretch of sand with some terrific rock formations almost making it feel like lots of little bays. It is the beach where Snow White and the Huntsman was filmed in 2011. It is worth checking the tide table though and planning your visit on a low tide because when the tide is in the beach all but disappears.  The National Trust carpark for the beach is about a half mile walk away. After our walk on the deserted beach we drove the short distance into Dale and enjoyed an excellent bar meal at The Griffin where they pride themselves on good-quality, locally-sourced food.   The fish I had was caught in the waters outside the pub window – it doesn’t get much more local than that!   We received a very hospitable welcome (despite being late lunchers!) and there was a welcoming log fire in both bars and that with a glass of...
