Narberth Food Festival 2016

Narberth Food Festival 2016

Fine weather and quiet beaches often make September the perfect time to visit. If you’re planning a trip later in the month then it’s a great chance to catch the annual Narberth Food Festival. This year the festival takes place on the 24th and 25th of September. A bustling and vibrant event offering an inexhaustible array of flavours and tastes, the Narberth Food Festival is always well received by locals and travellers alike. An array of delicious foods from local suppliers or further afield. The Majority of food stalls are businesses from Wales making it a true celebration of fantastic Welsh produce. It’s variety and wealth of traders that now attend ensure there will be something there for every palate. Cookery demonstrations from top chefs, bakers and food experts are on both days for visitors to get involved with. A raffle with fantastic prizes is held on Sunday, tickets are available from the information desk. If you’re thinking about bringing the whole family there’s plenty to do. Entertainment and activities for children run throughout the day and are free with festival entry. A licensed bar and music from local bands make the festival a fun and friendly place to hang out as the day goes on. The food festival is great value for money with tickets for the weekend priced at just £5 for adults or free for under 18s. Find out more...
The West’est VW Fest at Dewslake Farm

The West’est VW Fest at Dewslake Farm

Photography by Percolated Design In late May we’re always busy at Dewslake Farm preparing for the bustle of half term. This year we had even more to get excited about as we were to be hosting Pembrokeshire’s first VW festival. As the days rolled into June a stream of vans and cars from all over Wales and beyond made their way down to the campsite. The gates opened up and in they rolled. A steady stream of all shapes, colours and sizes, bumping onto the grass to take their pitches up for the weekend. Drivers from near and far set up camp, lit their stoves and boiled their kettles. A seemingly constant supply of hot tea flowed from camping kettles to tin mugs and passed from one hand to another. Those arriving early sat back and watched the festival unfold and were gradually joined by fellow club members, friends and people they’d met along the road. As a family friendly event, children had the entire festival site as their playground. They were able to roam the fields, cart in the wheelbarrows or wear themselves out on the bouncy castles. There were circus workshops, street dance classes, a magic and balloon show and disco. There was even a customised VW ice cream van to hand which provided refueling and refreshment for the long days in the sun. Parents were able to sit back and watch from the shade of their awnings. Until later in the afternoon, when they picked themselves up to browse the abundance of trading stalls and fabulous vehicles that had arrived on site. The festival weekend was...

A lovely evening of friends, music and feasting!

A lovely evening of friends, music and feasting!

After a busy day of arrivals, the campers had settled in for the evening and we were all in for a treat. Slow Pig had been busy all afternoon creating a glorious feast for campers, guests and staff alike. It was a lovely warm evening and as we strolled down to the shed the aromas of dinner hit us and we started to feel very hungry! We walked into a shed transformed. Greeted by a beautiful vista of long trestle tables decorated with stunning floral arrangements by Lamphey Walled Garden and lit by beautiful handmade porcelain lights courtesy of the lovely Mena Ceramics. The scene was framed with a wall of vintage sails, the perfect backdrop for Slow Pig’s vintage Citroen van. And the best was yet to come… as we settled into our seats and opened a bottle of wine, the food started to arrive. To start we had manchego cheese with Lamphey honey & fennel pollen, bread & homemade butter and broad bean hummus served with little handmade spoons by Mena Ceramics. Having never tried fennel pollen before I was pleasantly surprised, it was a great complement to the salty manchego. The group favourite however where the broad bean hummus and my two year old niece was particularly partial to the homemade butter! Next to arrive were the lettuce wraps with spiced lamb and pan con tomate, both delicious and devoured in a matter of minutes. Fresh tomatoes are a particular favourite of mine, always a completely different experience to the store bought variety. Knowing that there was more to come I tried to save room but I was already failing! The hot dishes soon arrived, calcots with romesco (grilled...
