Rustic Festival Wedding at Dews Lake Campsite

Rustic Festival Wedding at Dews Lake Campsite

In Addition to our camping here at Dews Lake, we also offer the option of full-site hire for events such as Festival style weddings, and back in May we hosted Lindsay and Will’s fun, intimate ceremony. They took over the site for the weekend, including the 3 Bunkhouse Cabins and creating a small Bell Tent village for guests to stay and chill out. We have facilities for guests including a kitchen and hot showers and it was a great addition to have a bell tent especially for wedding preparations and pampering. Lindsay and Will added lots of personal touches such as their own sign posts around the campsite with quotes on, and rustic decorations-flower pots and crates-outside the main marquee. We were so lucky with the weather and the ceremony took place in one of the fields, with guests sat outside the Marquee. As we are a dog-friendly campsite the happy couple were able to have their dog at the event too which is such a lovely touch. After the ceremony their photographer Christian took them to Freshwater East-our closest beach for some relaxed photos (and a dog walk) so they had a chance to have some beach time as well as enjoy the farm. The reception was held in the Marquee, with catering by the lovely ladies at Teacup parties and events this was followed by “the best pizza you’ll ever eat” from Dusty Knuckles. Guests then spilled out onto the field to play lawn games and sit around our fire pits to enjoy the last of the evening light. We have plenty of space here so couples...

The West’est VW Fest 2017

Last weekend saw the return of The West’est VW fest here at Dews Lake in Lamphey, and it was a great event for VW enthusiasts and campers alike. There were stalls in the fields selling VW merchandise, clothing and more, including local businesses such as iSea Surfwear (designed and made here in Pembrokeshire) Closer to the barn we had a bar and catering area, with stalls and food trucks offering ice creams, pizzas, Chinese and a local favorite- Slow Pig who served up tasty nachos and other delicious hot food from their converted 1978 Citroen H van. This year had a Country and Western theme, and some of the guests went all-out with their costumes! We had everything from horses to burly guys in cowgirl dresses, and plenty of furry friends with their own outfits too, which added to the fun atmosphere. We welcome well behaved dogs at the site, and it’s lovely to see campers enjoying themselves with their pets in tow (some literally being towed along on VW themed trailers!) Entertainment in the daytime included cupcake decorating, an eating competition and dancing workshop so there was plenty to get involved with for younger campers, while the evenings entertainment was provided by some great singers. Local 3-piece band The Stangs kicked off Saturday night, and Sunday we had a hugely entertaining Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers tribute who got the whole barn singing and dancing. This was followed by Food Fighterz whose lead singer was playing his last gig as part of the group. This year, the organizers planned events to raise money for the Welsh paediatric palliative...

The West’est VW Fest at Dewslake Farm

The West’est VW Fest at Dewslake Farm

Photography by Percolated Design In late May we’re always busy at Dewslake Farm preparing for the bustle of half term. This year we had even more to get excited about as we were to be hosting Pembrokeshire’s first VW festival. As the days rolled into June a stream of vans and cars from all over Wales and beyond made their way down to the campsite. The gates opened up and in they rolled. A steady stream of all shapes, colours and sizes, bumping onto the grass to take their pitches up for the weekend. Drivers from near and far set up camp, lit their stoves and boiled their kettles. A seemingly constant supply of hot tea flowed from camping kettles to tin mugs and passed from one hand to another. Those arriving early sat back and watched the festival unfold and were gradually joined by fellow club members, friends and people they’d met along the road. As a family friendly event, children had the entire festival site as their playground. They were able to roam the fields, cart in the wheelbarrows or wear themselves out on the bouncy castles. There were circus workshops, street dance classes, a magic and balloon show and disco. There was even a customised VW ice cream van to hand which provided refueling and refreshment for the long days in the sun. Parents were able to sit back and watch from the shade of their awnings. Until later in the afternoon, when they picked themselves up to browse the abundance of trading stalls and fabulous vehicles that had arrived on site. The festival weekend was...
